We have an extremely vibrant Junior Section within the club and have invested greatly in Junior Golf.

Golf can be a very positive influence on young people’s lives, offering them opportunities to develop good life skills - it can help build self esteem, allow friendships to develop between golfers of all ages, and teach them the ability to win and lose.

The Junior Section is run by the Junior Liaison Officer, Stephen Atkinson who is responsible for the running of the junior competitions and junior handicaps. He is generally to be found around the club and will encourage junior golf and advise on the etiquette expected on the golf course and in the clubhouse.

Darlington Golf Club has received a prestigious award in recognition of the work that it is doing to encourage young players.

We are the first club in Darlington and the third in the Durham County to receive GolfMark.

We are currently developing a comprehensive programme
which involves coaching, team games and competitions
here at Darlington and at other clubs in the region.

We also have a Child Welfare Officer, Mr R. Harris
who is the first point of contact for club staff, volunteers,
young people and parents for any issue concerning
child welfare, poor practice or potential/alleged abuse.

Our Head Professional, James Cousins,
provides group junior coaching during the school holidays.

For further details about the coaching call in to the
Pro Shop and speak to James.

If you need any further assistance on any point
please contact our Junior Liaison Officer.

Golf Course Etiquette - Manners, Rules & Respect
In all sports there are rules but golf is a little different, it also has a code of etiquette
Golf etiquette is very important. If you are on professional golf courses, not following the right etiquette can get you banned from future rounds.
Juniors are introduced to the Rules and Etiquette of Golf the first set of which is safety related. Golf can be a somewhat dangerous sport and it is important to follow safety rules. Players must be aware of those around them and must not swing until they have plenty of room. Don’t start the hole until the group ahead has finished and moved onto the next hole. Never throw clubs in anger. In addition, should they choose to use a golf trolley then follow the posted golf trolley rules.
The second set of golf rules is all about being respectful to the other golfers. These golf etiquette tips include keeping a good pace by being ready to play when it is their turn, allowing other golfers to play through if they are faster than them, repairing all divots and ball marks and raking the sand traps after use. These rules help all golfers to observe behaviour that is courteous to the other players and groups.
The final set of golf rules is mainly to keep good manners on the course. Never talk during another golfer’s swing as this can be distracting. Be aware of their shadow on the putting green and keep it out of the way of those who are putting. Never walk through another putter’s putting line. It is much better to walk behind the putter and their ball.
As you can see, observing proper golf etiquette is easy to do and will keep golf outings enjoyable and conflict-free.
Additional policies and local rules are posted around the clubhouse.
