Rule 18

OUT OF BOUNDS

(a) Beyond any of the metal or wooden fences and any of the hedges forming the Course boundaries. Note: Where there is a fence within a hedge, the fence is the course boundary. 

(b) The boundary hedges the left of the 11th fairway and the red staked area, the course side edge of the hedge of the white stakes 

(c) The Greenkeeper’s Compound to the left side of the 18th hole, as defined by White posts, lines or markings.

(d) The garden area situated to the rear of the 18th green identified by white posts.

(e) The clubhouse and gardens, the Professional’s shop, the car park and all artificially surfaced roads and paths in the surrounding area.

(f) The rear of the 10th green towards the Clubhouse and practice putting area defined by the white posts. 

NOTE: The path leading from the first tee to the first fairway beyond the White line is NOT Out of Bounds.

(g) On or over the white lines at the exits from the course adjacent to the 10th and 18th Greens.


Moveable& Immoveable

OBSTRUCTIONS

(a) Fixed Sprinkler Heads, Rule 16

(b) All fixed sprinkler heads are immovable obstructions and relief from interference by them may be obtained under Rule 16-1/1.

In addition, if a ball lies off the putting green in the general area but not in a penalty area any obstructions on or within two club lengths of the putting green and within two club lengths of the ball intervenes on the line of play between the ball and the hole, the player may take relief as follows: The ball shall be lifted and dropped at the nearest point to where the ball lay which (i) is not nearer the hole, (ii) avoids such intervention and (iii) is not in a penalty area or on a putting green. The ball may be cleaned when lifted.

(c) The area to the rear of the 12th tee, which is bordered by wooden shuttering and filled with wood chippings, is an integral part of the course and no relief may be taken. If a ball comes to rest against the wooden shuttering or the wooden shuttering impedes a player’s stance, relief may be taken from the ‘nearest point of relief’ without penalty for interference by an immovable obstruction (Rule 16).

All Cart Paths – cinder paths and artificially surfaced areas; are classified as abnormal course conditions and free relief may be taken under Rule 16.1b 

Wooden shuttering surrounding winter tee boxes are an integral part of the course, and no free relief will be given

PROTECTION OF YOUNG TREES

Protection of young trees identified by stakes or wire stays. If such a tree interferes with the player’s stance or the area of the intended swing, the ball MUST be lifted, without penalty, and dropped in accordance with the procedure in Rule 16-1 (Immovable Obstruction). The ball may be cleaned when lifted.


Rule 17

PENALTY AREA

Water identified by yellow stakes or lines is an ordinary penalty area, and Rule 17 applies. Water identified by red stakes or lines is a lateral penalty area, and Rule 17 applies.

NO PLAY ZONE & PENALTY AREA

Marked with Red stakes, green tops. The penalty area on the left fairway of the 8th hole. 

  1. When the ball is in the No Play Zone in the Penalty Area. The player must take penalty relief under Rule 17.1d or 17.2. 

  2. Failure to take relief from the NPZ incurs a general penalty in Matchplay or Strokeplay

Relief Must Be Taken from Interference by No Play Zone in Abnormal Course Condition, 16.1f.  The area to the left of the 18th green and beyond the artificial path towards the boundary fence, identified by the loose gravel and green stakes. This area is a no play zone in the general area and in bounds. The player must take free relief under Rule 16.1b.


Rule 5

PRACTICE

Practice before or between rounds- “Practising on the course” means playing a ball from anywhere or testing the surface of the putting green of any hole by rolling a ball or rubbing the surface.

On the day of a stroke-play competition: You must not practise on the course before a round, except that you may:

  • Practise putting (rear of the clubhouse practice putting green) or chipping on or near the driving range, the chipping areas and other areas of the practise ground i.e. driving range.

  • Practise on or near the putting green of the hole just completed, even if you will play that hole again on the same day.

  • You may practise on the course after completing play of your final round for that day.

If you make a stroke in breach of this Rule, you get the general penalty applied to your first hole. If you make an additional stroke in breach of this Rule, you are disqualified. If you make a stroke in breach of this Rule, you get the general penalty applied to your first hole. If you make an additional stroke in breach of this Rule, you are disqualified.

USE OF DISTANCE-MEASURING

DEVICES (Laser rangefinders, GPS systems) (Rule 4.3)

The use of devices that MEASURE DISTANCE ONLY, (not wind, gradient or other factors) are permitted.


Rule 13

BALL ACCIDENTALLY MOVED ON A PUTTING GREEN

When a player’s ball lies on the putting green, there is no penalty if the ball or ball marker is accidentally moved by the player, his partner, his opponent, or any of their caddies or equipment. The moved ball or ball-marker must be replaced as provided in Rule 13. This Local Rule applies only when the player’s ball or ball-marker lies on the putting green and any movement is accidental.

Note: If it is determined that a player’s ball on the putting green was moved as a result of wind, water or some other natural cause such as the effects of gravity, the ball must be played as it lies from its new location. A ball-marker moved in such circumstances is replaced.

PUBLIC RIGHTS OF WAY

Be aware across the 11th and 16th fairways and the front of the 18th tee box of persons traversing the course, with the public right of way right of way across these areas of the course. Avoid dangerous play at all times.
